about

A poet of the late 1800's named Sidney Lanier once stated that "music is love in search of a word." If Sidney Lanier is correct in his assertion, then it seems experimental rock group Eight Bit Racer is still searching for the right words to say.

Perhaps a more appropriate quotation for the Pylesville, MD ensemble comes from German poet Heinrich Heine: "When words leave off, music begins."

After a long hiatus, instrumental rock group Eight Bit Racer reunited in late November 2012 to compose their 4th album. The band's much anticipated self-titled release comes on the heels of a hectic holiday season, as well as a major hurricane which ravaged through much of the U.S. east coast.

Inspired by worldly chaos, the band disappeared into the mystical ether of sound. Guided by dream-like tone and cloudy reverberation, "Eight Bit Racer" is certainly the group's "spaciest" descent into the realm of noise rock. Highlighted on the self titled release are four lengthy improvisational jams: "Kaleidoscopic", "Gemology", "Nematode", and "Is It Hard Being A Girl?" Each groove was edited minimally and split strategically into ten separate movements.

"Eight Bit Racer" is a one-take live release, recorded at "the Lightbulb" and mixed on location.

Production & editing were completed by Steve Price.
Album artwork was designed by A.K. Smith.
